Relaxation and Meditation Sessions- by Seth Templeton

A common need that we as RLA’s on First Hunt try address and meet is the rising levels of tension and stress not only at the end of 2nd Trimester but also throughout the entire year. I really enjoy leading these programs because I can relate very strongly to the issues that we face as individuals here at NCSSM not only from my experiences as a junior last year but also with the difficulties of senior life. We do guided “meditations” as a hall which invite those who are interested to all come together to a quiet room with the lights turned down and some relaxing music playing in the background. We then go through some guided mediation scripts which address a wide range of issues from stress and emotional trouble, all the way to physical health, relationships, and building a better self-image. Also we have relaxation sessions which are basically where we can have a guided topic or activity which focuses on us just coming together and enjoying each other’s company as a brotherhood on hall while doing whatever it is that has been prepared. My personal favorite example of a relaxation program is the “Jam Session” which is when we bring speakers and a laptop out on hall and go in a circle picking music to listen to and just sit, relax, and talk.
