We hope all members and families of First Hunt enjoy the first extended weekend of the year! Remember to get lots of sleep, eat food that is not from the PFM, and enjoy your time off. First Hunt will be awaiting everyone's return Monday!

Tijuana Flats
Today, for a quick dinner, First Hunt went to Tijuana Flats! Tijuana Flats is a new Mexican restaurant on 9th street that offers great food and deals, like "Two Taco Tuesdaze." At only $4.99, everybody was able to get two tacos, chips and a drink, which everybody's wallet and stomach thoroughly enjoyed.

Hall Activities!
This week First Hunt did a variety of hall activities. The week started off with a time-capsule program. For
this activity, everyone sat down and wrote letters to their future selves, about
their goals for the year, current thoughts, and really
any other interesting facts to remember at the end of the year. These letters will be a great read at the end of the year to see if everyone has lived up to their expectations! Tuesday, there was "Three Men On a Couch." This game, a twist on two truths and a lie, was great fun and allowed everybody to learn about one-another's summer. On Wednesday and Thursday there was gym day and soccer practice for Intramurals. Near the end of the week everyone on First hunt was asked to fill out a board on the great things that everyone did over the summer. Lastly, on Friday First Hunt held its first IVIZ! An IVIZ is a two hour time period where everyone on campus is invited to come on hall and hang out in their friend's room. It was a great time for all and everyone on campus was able to see how great of a hall First Hunt is!

Hall Food and Explorer of the Week
Last week HT Slaughter's family provided the hall with a delicious snack of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and milk that was sure to not disappoint! The hall would like to thank HT and his family for providing such a sugary-sweet hall food!
One of the programs First Hunt also does is "Explorer of the Week." This program allows hall members to get to know members of the hall better. Questions are asked at the beginning of the year and each Wednesday a hall member's picture is posted with those questions answered. Last week's explorer was Anshul Subramanya. For this week, the explorer is Dhru Patel.

CiCi's Pizza
Today, to take a break from studying and homework, First Hunt went to CiCi's Pizza. As per usual, there was the competition to see who could eat the most pizza. With the reigning champion, Zack Polizzi, not able to show up to defend his title, the championship goes to Parker Ellwanger! Regardless of who ate the most, the pizza was refreshing and everyone left full. Now time for everyone to get back to their homework for Monday!
Club Fair and T-Shirt Signing Dance!
Yesterday was NCSSM's Club Fair. This was a time for everyone on campus to get a good look at all of the clubs offered at the school. With too many clubs to count, there is certainly something for everybody. With everything from theater, dancing, food sampling, to science bowl, these clubs are a great way for everyone to explore and find something that they enjoy! Yesterday was also NCSSM's annual T-Shirt Signing Dance. For this dance, students have a plain white t-shirt and decorate it with their hall logo. Everyone then goes to the gym to have their shirt signed by whomever they wish on the campus! First Hunt has a tradition of taking a picture before they go, which can be seen below. This dance was also a great time to meet people that might not have otherwise been known before!

Convocation!
Tonight was NCSSM's 34th convocation! After a great first day of classes, First Hunt and others across the campus dressed up to listen to Sharon Letchworth, an NCSSM alum, speak about her success in life. One of her focus points was how important NCSSM was and the key role that it played in her life. Afterwards, everyone headed over to the gym for cookies, drinks and of course the tradition of taking convocation pictures!

Juniors, Seniors, and Boards!
Yesterday, after long and informative meetings, the juniors and seniors played ice-breaker games with our brother hall, Second Hill. Among the games played were NCSSM classics such as; human knot, entourage, stinger, and in my neighborhood. The games were fun for all and throughout we were able to learn more about each other.
On hall, First Hunt has been awarded, "best theme board" on campus. For this board, each member of First Hunt had their picture put into one of the five groups; Mountains, Space, Frontier, Jungle, and Ocean. Congratulations to the RLAs on such a great board!
Lastly, welcome back to all remaining seniors. Now that everyone has moved in we have our full hall of 35! Now our adventure as First Hunt, the best hall on campus, can begin!

Welcome to 1st Hunt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to 1st Hunt The Hall of Explorers.
I am so excited about everyone moving in on Saturday. We are going to have a great year. The RLAs and I are in the process of getting the hall all set for move in this week. My name is Michael Newbauer- I play multiple roles at the school. I am the Director of Residential Education and Housing, teach and the 1st Hunt SLI. I have been working at S & M since 2001. I lived on 2nd Hill for 7 years before moving over to 1st Hunt. I am so thankful for the amazing young men that I have had the honor to work with these past 12 years. I know this year is going to be extra special. We have four RLAs that will be working with your sons this year. Gabe Shepherd, Kevin Parham, Zack Polizzi, HT Slaughter. You can see what they wrote about themselves on the hall blog.
Just a couple of Reminders Move in is on Saturday 9-11:30am.
Have your son bring a White T-shirt for the dance that will happen the following weekend. Also, they need to dress up for Convocation on Tuesday. They will need to wear dress shirt, tie/bow tie, dress pants and dress shoes. This is a great night to see the whole school community come together to celebrate the upcoming year.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at Newbauer@ncssm.edu. I will be in and out of training for the rest of the week.
Please take a look at our hall blog. We will update it on a regular pictures with updates and hall pictures. It is a great way to stay connected with your son.
Sincerely
Michael W Newbauer
First Hunt RLAs for 2013-2014
(From left to right; Chatham, Zack, and Karl) |
Hello current and future 1st Hunters!
I'm Zack Polizzi and I'm super excited to be one of your RLA's next year. Kevin Parham and I will be your programming RLA's, so we'll be working on thinking up and planning all kinds of fun things to do together next year. If you have any ideas of an awesome hall program, let one of us know - we'd love to have some input from you all. I live in a triple with my roommates Karl and Chatham, and I plan to live with them again next year. I love building stuff, so you'll probably see random projects strewn across our room now and then. I love to dive, and I will be captain of the diving team next year. Over the summer I'll be doing Research in Physics here at NCSSM, and then going to Singapore for the Singapore International Science Competition. In my free time I'll be life-guarding back at home. Next year is going to be awesome, and I'm so excited to be a part of it!
Hello everybody!
I am HT Slaughter and I am going to be one of the RLAs on First Hunt next year. Some of my duties will include keeping the hall clean and running the hall blog. I currently live in Oxford, but I grew up in Durham. I greatly enjoy the outdoors, hiking (as can be seen from my picture), and spending a nice day (or any day) on the beach. I currently live in a triple in the annex and next year I will live in room 130 in the annex. Next year I will be running the lighting systems in the theater and serving on the theater’s Drama Board. I know that First Hunt is going to be a great hall next year. I am looking forward to all of the hall programs and great times that everyone is sure to have next year.
Your First Hunt RLA,
HT Slaughter
Hey guys!
My name is Kevin Parham and I am really excited to be a First Hunt Programming RLA next year! Next year I will be living in Hunt Main, Room 114. I know it will be a great year and I am really looking forward to all of the fun times we will have together. I have lived in Durham, NC my entire life and I have two older brothers that I love spending time with. I am really big into swimming and running, and I am a member of both the SMath swimming and track teams. I also love outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and camping. This summer I am going to be a swim coach for my neighborhood swim team and I am going backpacking in New Mexico for two weeks. I can’t wait until I get to move onto First Hunt next year as an RLA and become a part of the best hall on campus!
See you all soon!
Kevin Parham
My name is Gabe Shepherd and I am super excited to be a First Hunt RLA for this coming year! I can’t wait to meet and thoroughly get to know everyone that will be on our hall next year. I have lived in Durham and Washington, NC all of my life and have 5 younger sisters and 1 younger brother, all of whom I love being with. For my entire life, I have swum year-round, and now that I go to NCSSM, I swim for the Duke Aquatics swim team. Besides swimming, I love doing almost anything that involves physical activity. This summer I am traveling Europe by myself for a month and staying with friends that I have met over the past few years. Besides Europe, I will also be spending my summer in Annapolis, MD at the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar where I will be living like a cadet for a week and a half. I can’t wait for move in day when I will be able to really get to know all the current people on hall and all the new members who will be joining the BEST HALL on campus. My hope is that everyone else is as excited for next year as I am, and I can’t wait to become a RLA on First Hunt!
