January Programming!
Let’s face it, the winter isn’t much fun here at NCSSM. It’s cold, and the sun sets as soon as the last class dismisses (at least that’s what it feels like!), but us First Hunters try to make the best of things! To make the season a bit merrier, we like to come together and have fun with some hall activities. So far this month we have done yoga, had a ping pong tournament, gone to local coffee shops, had meditation, played dodge ball. And that’s just to name a few! We tend to have a program every day. Sometimes they last around 15 minutes (like having a paper airplane flying contest) and others may last a few hours. Rest assured though, the lengthier programs are saved for weekends, so they don’t interfere with studying! All in all that’s the goal of programming, to provide a source of stress relief, fun, and brotherhood. I personally think that they make life here a lot easier.
And we have some fun things coming up in the following weeks! It’s going to be awesome!

Winter Sports Season!
We are almost finished with the second trimester, and it is a fitting time that we recognize our winter sports athletes. In indoor track, Chris Panuski is running like cheetahs. In swimming, Kyle Riker, Austin Hopkins, Connor Davis, Will Milligan, and Logan Herrera are conquering the seas under the leadership of our very own SLI, Michael Newbauer. And last but not least, in wrestling, Seth Templeton, Jeshua Ray, and Vitchyr Pong are dominating the mat. These students have had to juggle both the demanding curriculum of second trimester and a time-consuming varsity sport. They have practiced every weekday and have represented First Hunt extremely well in their respective sports. Thank you athletes for your commitment and perseverance!
Hall Food!
Last night's hall food was incredibly special! We had Jackson Mower's mom and nana come cook food for everyone. The pizza casserole, sourdough bread, salad and chocolate eclair cake was just enough to make us miss home that much more! As extended approaches we cannot be more thankful for great parents to help us through the stress that this school provides!
IM Dodgeball Season
First Hunt has had an awesome IM Dodgeball season. Our first game against 4th East was full of promising signs. Our next two games were admittedly a little disappointing, then, when we lost to both 4th West and 3rd East respectively, 4-1 and 3-2. We redeemed ourselves last night with a 5-0 smashing of 2nd West! Captains Dayton Ellwanger and Jordan Clark-Brown did a great job organizing the season and we had too much fun out there! We can't wait for Volleyball season starting soon!
Asiafest!
This past weekend the Asian Cultures Club hosted Asiafest, a campus-wide event celebrating the student's Asian heritage and culture. The event was so popular that there was a showing both Friday and Saturday night, due to the overflow of viewers last year. First hunt had a plethora of hall members participate in the acts. From Vitchyr Pong and Jin Yoon showcasing their breakdancing skills, to Aakash Gandhi, Vipul Vachharajani and Ashwin Monian doing Bhangra, to Luke Fernandez singing in the Unichords a cappella group, First Hunt showcased some of its amazing talent at one of the most exciting events of the school year.
First HIPPO (Ping-pong) Match!
This past Saturday First Hunt hosted its first HIPPO game. HIPPO is the Hunt Intramural Ping Pong Organization that was founded this year by a group of students. It consists of the 7 resident halls on Hunt who send 3 representatives to compete in an intramural league. First Hunt sent Jeshua Ray, Otis Skipper and Jin Yoon to compete against 4th East. The games were played at the Neal Lewis Memorial Stadium in Hunt Classroom. Jeshua Ray won his game, but sadly, Otis Skipper's valiant effort in his 2nd game wasn't enough to come away with a victory. Jin Yoon easily won his game, giving 1st Hunt an overall victory in the standings. 1st Hunt is staged to play 2nd West this weekend.
