Hall Food

Here goes out a big thanks to Vitchyr Pong and his family for providing hall food last week. The pizza was awesome!!

First Hunt Hall Dinner

Hello All,
Today, First Hunt had most likely our best program-- the hall dinner. Together, the hall gathered with our new chancellor Todd Roberts, as well as our hall mothers Dr. Naiman and Ms. Hudson to have a wonderful time celebrating the hall. We feasted, and had a blast stealing gifts from each other in Ms. Hudson's gift game-- which she generously provided. Sadly, Coach Michell couldn't make it, but wishes us all a happy break. Thanks to all of the families who donated food and money in the aid of the dinner, and thanks to all of the hall members for helping in the set-up and clean-up duties. It was a wonderful time, and we continued the hall tradition with style.

December Programs

Hello Everyone,

November was a great month for programming. I believe everyone on hall thoroughly enjoyed the programs in November; however, this December's programming is huge. We have some great programming going on, not only on hall, but also within the school. In a few days we will be having our Semi-Formal dance and our hall dinner the very next day! In addition to these events, we have our "Secret Snowman" program this month, as well as some traditional programs such as meditation and wall-ball. I look forward to the rest of the programming in December, as I'm sure everybody on hall does. And with that, I'd like to wish everyone Happy Holidays. :)

Thank You,
Evan Strother

This years hall dinner, next Sunday, is going to be awesome, and any donations from parents of gift cards or food would be greatly appreciated. See you there First Hunters!!

Turkey Trot 2010

Yesterday, NCSSM had a cross-campus wellness activity to promote the health of the students of our school. Students were encouraged to walk or run a lap around the school campus, and then participate in various other activities like frisbee, dodgeball, a 5k run, etc. before a feast in the cafeteria. Eli Turlington of First Hunt helped lead the 5k race, and well represented the hall. First Hunt!

Yesterday, after getting first place in conference previously, the NCSSM Men's soccer team won yet another game in the State playoffs, putting them in position to play in the semi-finals on Saturday; Otis Skipper did an excellent job last night, and will hopefully help lead the team to another win, and a State Title! Also, though, we must congratulate Kerry Elwanger, Eli Turlington, Nasseer Ahmed, Alan Wu, and Eliot Cartee in winning second place in the State Championship for Cross Country. Way to represent First Hunt Guys!

Hall Food

For a break from exams, we had hall food breaks at 10:30/11:00 from Sunday night to Tuesday night, and we also had a breakfast of muffins and orange juice on Tuesday. Thanks to Austin Hopkins,Otis Skipper, Kerry Elwanger, and the RLA's and their families for providing such a big help this week. It makes it a lot better to have something to look forward to each night after all of the exams. I'm sure everyone did excellently. Go First Hunt!

Hall Pancakes

On Saturday night, the hall got together in Mike's apartment to eat pancakes and watch a movie. We had a huge turnout, and we ate a ton of pancakes. It was good to get together before exams, and release some of that built up stress.

First Hunt Relay

On Sunday, October 24, we had the First Hunt Relay. A competition for men, between men, to see which of our inspirational groups most deserved to hold the First Hunt Cup of Glory. We had 14 hall-mates
show up looking for fame. They were divided into 4 groups depending on their inspirational group (Jeremy Dejournett joined the writers so he could be on an even numbered team). Then, at the sound of Evan
Strother's booming voice, the relay commenced. Four teams furiously completed the eleven events, ranging from a peanut butter sandwich eating race, to leapfrogging to the middle of the circle and back. Kerry
Ellwanger set the Athletes off to a fast start by finishing the peanut butter sandwich before any other competitor followed shortly by Jeremy Dejournett, but Jeremiah Mcleod and Vitchyr Pong brought their teams
back in the Somersault and Hand Walking events. In the end, the three victorious competitors were those from the Thinker group: Grady Nash, Morgan Rothe, and Vitchyr Pong. All three proudly lifted the cup
high amidst streaming rays of sunlight to proclaim their victory.

Bullying

Wednesday the hall had a Hot Topics program centered on the recent cyber bullying that has been presented in the media. We focused on the Rutgers college student who committed suicide after being harassed for being a homosexual. The topic brought a great turnout, and there were many sides to the conversation. The debate was whether cyber bullying could be considered murder if it led to suicide and privacy issues on the Internet.

Hall Activities

Hello everyone,

Evan again. Welcome back to the 1st Hunt blog! My co-RLAs and I have been hard at work planning activities for the enjoyment of our residents. We've had a very productive past couple months for programming, and we have a lot more coming for the rest of the year.

Last month, in September we had quite a few accomplishments program-wise as a hall. Amongst other things, we learned how to Bhangra, went to CiCi's pizza, and had our monthly Ping-Pong tournament. The residents are really enjoying life on 1st Hunt, and I have had a wonderful pleasure working with all of them. Many of our residents thoroughly enjoyed our trip to CiCi's and we ate over 100 slices of pizza. Oh, and lastly, I would just like to give a shout out to our Intramural soccer efforts over the course of September. We finished second place in IM soccer!

For October, we have planned quite a few things. Amongst other things, we'll have our first paper airplane contest, our hall talent show, and our 1st Hunt relay. The 1st Hunt relay is my personal favorite, it should involve almost everyone on hall, and will incorporate many different sorts of activities in order to accommodate all interests on hall. Another big event will be our first hall talent show. We encourage any of our residents to come out and show us any talent or gift they may have, whether they can play guitar or do a handstand. Lastly, to wrap it all off, the school will have a Halloween dance October 30. Its the perfect ending to a month of fun-filled activities.

Hope you have a great day!

Sincerely,
Evan Strother

BroSis Family Feud

Hey, this is Morgan, and I'm here to inform you all of BroSis Family Feud! This past Saturday, First Hunt created a five person team with the sister hall to compete in a campus-wide Family Feud type game. The game consisted of questions relating to North Carolina, and our school. Example questions were five North Carolina landmarks, or 5 pet peeves at NCSSM. We competed in the first round against another brother sister hall team, and unfortunately lost because we tried to answer every question the first round without passing. It was a great way, however, to have a good time with our sister hall.

Here goes out a big thanks to Elliot and his family for the delicious lasagna, salad, garlic bread, and cheesecake Thursday. It was awesome!

Tee Shirt Signing Dance

Hello Everyone,
Saturday night at NCSSM, there was a tee shirt signing dance in the Gym. Everyone wore white tee shirts, and had others sign their names all over.

Before hand, we all got together as a hall to sign each others shirts, and to go to the dance as a hall. It was a great way to get to know people, and to take our minds off of school. Whether you expected it or not, First Hunt got our groove on!

First couple of days

We have had a wonderful opening! I appreciate all of the parents, 1st Hunt Students and our wonderful RLAS. We had a busy weekend and classes start on Tuesday. On Saturday night they went to the picnic and then ice cream social dance. It is always great to see people who usually don't dance get out there and shake their groove. Sunday was a busy meeting time for our junior students. they were going from 9am-2pm with just a lunch break. The seniors moved in from 3-7pm. We went to Cosmics(Mexican restaurant) to have a hall dinner. It was a great time with the juniors and seniors together. Then we had our brother/sister hall program with alot of fun icebreakers. The night ended with the juniors learning how to do housekeeping on the hall. I am excited about working with some fantastic young men

Hey,
I’m Jeremiah McLeod, and I am from Burnsville, NC- close to Asheville. As you may know, I’ll be taking on the responsibility of assistant this year; within that, one of the things I’ll be working on is the hall blog.
In my free time, I enjoy working out, playing IM sports with the hall, and table tennis. As for this year, I look forward to making strong connections with the juniors and seniors, and showing my respect and care for the hall, and for the school as a whole. Together, I think our team for this year will work to have another great year. By the way, here are the other RLA’s:

Hey!

My name is Adam Carey and I will be of the RLA’s on First Hunt next year. My hometown is Morganton, a small town between Hickory and Asheville.

I’m most excited about building strong bonds with my hall mates, helping new juniors get adjusted to a strange new environment, and generally being a role model for our hall.
I enjoy physics, swimming, tennis, art, and playing guitar. I’ve lived on First Hunt Annex last year, but will be living on the main hall this year, and am looking forward to helping tie the two halves together as a whole.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Adam Carey

My name is Morgan Rothe-Skinner and I am from Burnsville, NC. I look forward to working with the juniors on First Hunt this year, and shaping their experience at NCSSM. Personally, I am in charge of housekeeping, and will maintain a clean and healthy environment. Though, the other RLA's and myself are excited to have many fun activities with members of the hall. At NCSSM, I enjoy track, ultimate frisbee, and many other physical activities to get my mind off of school work. Also, the weekends are very exciting, and are always filled with things to do. I am excited to meet all the new members of First Hunt this year, and to continue the great First Hunt experience that the hall had last year.

Hi, I'm Evan Strother, 1st Hunt programming RLA for the 2010-2011 school year. I'm originally from South View High School in Fayetteville, NC. I like many things, including guitar, baseball, the beach, skimboarding, and a good book. All in all, I just love to have fun. I'm looking forward to getting to know and work with everyone on hall, and organizing some awesome activities for the year.

Alright guys, these are the RLA's for this year. We look forward to a great year!

Welcoming the New RLA's

Hello parents,

First Hunt is proud to welcome the new RLA's on hall for the '10-'11 school year. I, Matt Hughes, have been working on the blog now since August an I am happy to share this responsibility now with the new assistant, Jeremiah McLeod. He is going to share a little about himself and his team.

Hello Everyone,

I'm really exited to have the job as assistant on 1st Hunt for next year- I'll be working on the blog with Matt for the rest of the school year, and I'm excited to take on the responsibility head on in August. It'll be great to work with the new team; I think we'll work really well together, and I look forward to a great hall. In the near future, Matt and I will have a post letting you get to know the other RLA's for the hall next year, as well as a little more about myself.
